Geological samplers

The range of instruments for geological sediment sampling includes gravity corers, Vulkanit shock tubes, wax corers, Multicorers, box corers, hydraulic grabs and the Vibrocorer (on request). Gravity Corer
Gravity corers are used to remove sediment cores from the seabed. The penetration depth depends on the type of corer, its weight, and the nature of the sediment. Depending on the corer type various deployment requirements in terms of the ship, the winch, and the slider or A-frame must to be fulfilled. We can offer corers in different weight classes and materials for core diameters between 60 mm and 125 mm and variable tube lengths.
 
We supply extensive accessories and wearing parts for your equipment. We also hold handling equipment and sample processing tools (e.g. extruders, core slicers, tube cutters, core catchers). We will also be happy to supply you with a non-standard gravity corer to suit your application.

Multiple Corer "MC 01-03"-Series
When undisturbed samples of the upper boundary layers between sea floor and the water column are a primary concern, the Multicorer celebrates 30 years of successful operations around the world. The traditional design is tried-and-tested and is now replaced by a newly developed generation with a more servicing-friendly design, reduced height and made entirely from V4A stainless steel. Thanks to the OktoMF system the equipment can be easily expanded to implement camera systems (with/without telemetry) and a variety of sensor systems.
 
As an Oktopus customer, you can specify the tube diameter, the number of tubes and the tube material for a wide range of samplers. We also offer a core tube optimised for CT scanners.
 
In addition, a wide range of accessories such as extruders, stoppers, replacement tubes, and wearing and spare parts is available.

Video-Guided Hydraulic Grab
The Video-Guided Hydraulic Deep-Sea Grab can be employed wherever the Box Corer cannot operate. Due to its high unladen weight (2 t) and great force at the edges (max. 45 kN) the Video-Guided Hydraulic Grab penetrates even coarse sands and stone. The grab can hold 0.6 m³.
 
Equipped with Oktopus’s telemetry and hydraulic OktoHPU the device can be operated with any cable that holds an optical fibre. Using an optical fibre cable a color video showing the seafloor and the sampling process can be obtained. Optional sensors enable you to simultaneously overview certain data (e. g. pan & tilt, compass, CTD, depth, sonar). Implementing one or more positioning systems can be easily done by the user or at Oktopus.
 
Do you need to employ the Video-Guided Hydraulic Deep-Sea Grab driven by an coaxial copper cable? Please do not hesitate to contact us reagrding your special requests!
